Garfield Park Arts Center (GPAC): Call to Artists for Asian Arts & Artists Exhibition

This summer Indy Parks and Recreation and the Garfield Park Arts Center (GPAC) will be hosting an Asian Arts & Artists Exhibition to compliment the annual Asian Fest presented by the Asian American Alliance. Works on display will include examples of the vibrant, exotic visual arts of Asia.  From India to Japan to the Philippines, many rich cultural treasures will be represented.  This exhibit will feature a blend of time-honored traditions and contemporary techniques. Artworks will include ceramics, paintings, textile arts and other mediums. The exhibit will be on display June 4th – July 24th, 2011, opening with the festival which takes place on the west lawn. Would you like to learn how to get better pictures from your digital camera?  Photography 101, presented by the Indiana Photographic Society, will address the basics of photography to help you improve those family and vacation photos.  Bring your camera to this presentation to help familiarize yourself with its features and functions.  The presentation will cover:

  • Switches and buttons and controls (oh, my!)
  • Memory cards and batteries
  • Holding your camera
  • Taking Beautiful Pictures
    • Light
    • Perspective
    • Distance
    • Composition

Position provides excellent customer service as it facilitates creative learning experiences for the public and maintains a safe, clean, organized and secure facility.

GPAC Selected to Participate in American Garden Award   Leave a comment

American Garden Award logo

The Garfield Park Arts Center Garden (located near the front entrance of our building) has been selected as one of only 24 public gardens to participate in the 2011 American Garden Award. Our garden will display seven new varieties that some of the world’s most prominent breeders have selected to compete in this program.  Once these flowers have established themselves in their designated display area, the public is invited to visit the garden, view the flowers then vote on the one they feel has the most appealing garden characteristics.
