“Moooomm, I’m bored!” Ever hear this when you take your kids to First Friday events? Why not give them something fun to do while you check out the galleries?
Drop them off at the Garfield Park Arts Center for a night of hands-on art activities! We’ll play games, watch movies, and create masterpieces. Materials and snacks will be provided. Prompt drop-off and pick-up required. Ages 6 – 12. $12/event. Additional Sibling $10.

After you and your child have enjoyed First Friday fun, stick around for our Bike-In Movie!

Join us for murder and mystery! Film collector, historian, and preservationalist Eric Grayson will be sharing some of his favorite vintage films one night each month. Each film is preceded by a vintage cinematic ‘short.’
Starring Ed Lowry and Verna Hillie. A mystery, with just the right amount of comedy thrown in. And old, dark mansion holds ancient secret . . . and a killer ape! (Runtime 62 min.)

Tickets are available at the door on the night of the film for $4 each. Popcorn, candy and drinks are available for $1 apiece.

Do you have a flair for photography? Do you like to work with clay? Is there someone in your family you consider artistically talented?
On behalf of the Garfield Park Arts Center and Indy Parks and Recreation, I would like to invite you to exhibit in The National Arts Program®. This show features artworks created by City of Indianapolis employees, retirees and their families as they compete for CASH prizes. Participation is completely free!
You can enter in any type of artwork, including painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry, pottery, or mixed media, you don’t have to pay anything, a nice reception will be held where people can admire your work, and you could win money!
Don’t have any artwork to display? No problem! Because you work for the City of Indianapolis, you get a 10% discount on many of the Garfield Park Art Center’s classes! You could register for a painting class this Summer, then enter a painting you did in class for the NAP exhibit. Not only are you learning a fun new skill, you also get to show it off and possibly win a prize!

In coordination with Indianapolis’s First Friday events,
the Arts Center at Garfield Park is proud to present our favorite movies
FOR FREE!
Between May and September there will be five events featuring film favorites from the 80s. Food trucks will be on site and the movies will begin shortly after dusk. Bring your bikes, blankets, family and friends to this new Indy Parks event.

Are you a fan of pop-up books? Have you ever wondered how they are made? Head on over to the Arts for All room and join us for some 3D fun! We’ll show you how to make a drawing look like it’s coming off the page and make creatures with mouths that open and close. All materials provided, just bring your imagination!

Join us for the seventh annual celebration of Egyptian dance. Advanced belly dancers will have the chance to participate in workshops with a master-level dance instructor. There is a special dance competition FREE for the public to watch.

After visiting the Indiana Photographic Society exhibit, swing by the Arts for All room for some hands-on fun! Turn a normal picture into an outstanding 3D masterpiece. Find the perfect photo from a magazine, make a few cuts and watch it transform!
