The Garfield Park Arts Center Garden (located near the front entrance of our building) has been selected as one of only 24 public gardens to participate in the 2011 American Garden Award. Our garden will display seven new varieties that some of the world’s most prominent breeders have selected to compete in this program. Once these flowers have established themselves in their designated display area, the public is invited to visit the garden, view the flowers then vote on the one they feel has the most appealing garden characteristics.
There will be three different ways to vote beginning on May 13th. Voting instructions will be available at the garden.
The seven entries for 2011 are:
Dahlia ‘Dahlinova Hypnotica Lavender’
Dianthus ‘Kahori’
Ornamental Pepper ‘Uchu’
Petunia ‘Easy Wave™ Neon Rose’
Petunia milliflora ‘Picobella Rose Star’
Scaevola ‘Surdiva® Light Blue’
‘SunPatiens® Variegated Spreading White’
Voting is open May 13th through August 31st, 2011 and winners will be announced in September. In the meantime, many of these flowers are available at your local garden retailer. Ask for them by name!
